Winnipeg, Manitoba is about 100 miles from the border of Ontario near the center of Canada’s southern border. Prince Rupert is a port city on the Pacific near the border of British Columbia and Alaska. The distance is 2,755 km or 1,711 miles. The crew from Winnipeg heading west was able to work much faster as they weren’t dealing with the Canadian Rockies. When my grandfather’s crew hit Jasper Park, Alberta, they stood on and around a sign that showed Winnipeg about 1,050 miles east and Prince Rupert about 450 miles west of that point. So, they were already 2/3 of the distance and still had met up with the Prince Rupert crew! There’s a picture of that “event” that I posted a couple of weeks ago.
